Water alone cannot remove dirt and sweat completely from the face; soap or body cleanser is too harsh for kids' faces. Cool kids facial cleansing gel is the perfect choice for kids. The top skin layer functions as a skin barrier, protecting the skin from environment damage, bacteria and skin hydration. As water alone can’t remove unwanted dirt, soil and bacteria from the skin, using a cleanser can clean dirt away but will also weaken the skin barrier because surfactants in the cleanser cause significant skin irritation, interact strongly with skin proteins and alter lipid barrier functions causing skin damage, dryness, irritation, and itches which allows bacteria to easily enter the body. Another factor that can aggravate surfactant induced dryness and irritation is the pH of the cleanser. A high pH can increase swelling in top skin layers and alter lipid rigidity. Thereby cleansers with mild surfactants (which minimize surfactant damage to the skin, replenish the skin lipids and deliver beneficial agents such as skin lipids and humectants under washing conditions) and neutral or acidic pH, close to normal top layer skin pH 5.5 which is potentially less damaging to the skin.
